You're Moving Where?!?

Yes, we really are moving to Hong Kong!

A lot of people have asked me why we would consider such a move, let alone actually do it. Both are good, reasonable questions! So, I thought I'd start our blog by providing some insight to what led us to take the plunge.

Of course, the driver for this change is the incredible job opportunity for Dave. In a global economy, what an amazing experience to work in an international business environment. From the start, Dave was intrigued with all aspects of working in Hong Kong.

Even so, it wasn't the job itself that made us decide we should move around the world. The unique opportunity for Dave, Lydia, and me to understand and experience Asian culture together was something we ultimately didn't think we could pass up. It's a chance for us to learn and grow together. And, it's for a limited period of time with a return to Kansas City at the end. Honestly, we didn't want to risk that 20 years from now we'd look back and wish we had done it.

That being said, making the decision really wasn't that easy. It was not without a lot of serious thought and consideration - we could wallpaper a room with the pros and cons lists we discussed. We realize that this decision doesn't just change our lives. The hardest part of all has been considering the impact on our families and friends. Much heartache has been felt, many tears have been shed. Telling family and friends that we plan to go has been more difficult than the decision itself. To say we have felt (and feel) guilty is a gross understatement. But, we know we will be back at least once a year and that technology will allow us to stay in touch in ways that no one could have imagined just a decade ago.

So, that's the background on how we got to the point where we need a blog about our Hong Kong adventure. Thanks for standing by us (even if you think we're crazy - we can't blame you!) and being interested enough in what we're doing to read this blog!
