Along the river, we enjoyed the natural beauty. The mountains are like none we had ever seen before with sheer cliffs and rounded tops. The low clouds made them look majestic.
We passed by the mountains that are famous for being on the $20 RMB (Chinese currency).
Some of the foliage along the river looked like very tall bushes…but turned out to be wild bamboo. Some of it was huge in diameter and several stories tall.
We also got a glimpse of the things that are part of life in rural China...

One evening we went to a renowned night show on the river called “Impression Liu SanJie.” The performance is conducted on stage that has been constructed across the water and along the river’s banks; 12 mountain peaks provide a beautiful natural background setting.
Over 600 local villagers take part in the show, which is directed by the man who directed the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. The show (a musical) was performed in the local dialect of Mandarin, so we had no idea what exactly was going on, but the music, choreography, and use of the natural setting were quite spectacular.
