Friday night we took a family field trip to an area called Tsim Sha Tsui. Tsim Sha Tsui is pronounced something like Chim-Saa-Choy, but fortunately “TST” is the accepted abbreviation. TST is located across the harbor from Hong Kong Island where we live. This little outing required nearly all forms of public transportation – a mini-bus, a train, a ferry, and a taxi!
TST is yet another busy tourist and shopping hub, but is unique because its waterfront offers an unobstructed view of the skyscrapers in the Central district of Hong Kong. After dark the building lights are amazing and there is a laser light show every evening.
This already uniquely Hong Kong view becomes even more distinctive in December as the skyscrapers are adorned with Christmas lights. 
The Ocean Terminal Mall at TST was decked out with Christmas décor. The display at the entrance was completely over-the-top. I can’t really describe it other than to say it made me think of “It’s a Small World” at Disney, combined with the flashing lights of Vegas, set in a color scheme that would have been all the rage in 1987 (mauve, lavender, and gold).
Other areas of TST were also extensively decorated for Christmas and quite beautiful, but it was hard to capture at night:
Hopefully we'll be able to visit some other areas before we head for the US on the 19th. If not, we'll just be happy to see the lovely (and tasteful) Plaza lights when we get to Kansas City!
Your description of the entrance cracked me up! The very bottom shot looks like it could've been taken on The Plaza.
