Hubei Reunion 2010

One of the major highlights of our summer was going to Chicago for the 5th Annual Hubei Reunion with the families we traveled to China with in 2005. The families are from all over the US – from California to Tennessee – so none of the girls (with a few exceptions, like the friends visiting us in HK) see each other at any time other than the annual reunion.

Yet, the girls act as if they’re together all the time. They play and tease and squabble like good friends. Actually, they are good friends. Here are some pics of the Hubei Girls in action.

For reasons I can’t explain, taking photos of adopted girls on the red couch at the White Swan hotel in Guangzhou, China is an adoption tradition. We took one in 2005 and at each reunion we try to “re-create” it wherever we are staying. As you can see, there was far more enthusiasm on the girls’ part in 2010 than there was five years ago.

Chicago was a really fun place to get together – we loved it. However, our group has learned that the location doesn’t really matter for the girls – hanging out in the backyard pool is as much fun as going on an outing in a cool city. Next year we’re getting together at the exotic locale of Jefferson City, MO. We can’t wait!
