There were no hayrack rides, dusty fields, prickly pumpkin
vines, or old-time scales to weigh pumpkins…but the “Pumpkin Fest” sponsored by
Lydia’s school is as close to a pumpkin patch as we’re going to get in Hong
Kong.
The Girl Scouts help at the event by polishing and cleaning
the pumpkins; then they form a really long line (there are 200 girls in Girl
Scouts) and pass the pumpkins to the place where they will be sold. The young girls love it and take their
responsibility very seriously – they don’t seem to notice that the pumpkins are
already very clean and haven’t figured out that they could be delivered directly to the place they are sold.
Here are girls from Lydia’s Brownie troop…

The hay bale was a bit comical – just a lone bale, sitting
on the concrete, looking completely out of place...and not many people knowing
what to do with it.
It was no rural Kansas pumpkin patch - but without
leaves turning color or chilly weather, it was a signal that fall is here. Guess it really is time to get out those Halloween
decorations!
