We are very fortunate that Tropical Storm Marokat missed Hong Kong. The damage has been very significant in Taiwan and Mainland China. We've seen videos of hotels collapsing into the river, bridges being wiped out, and terrible mudslides. It is having a devastating impact on people in those areas, especially those who didn't have much before the storm hit. We feel lucky to just have really hot and humid weather.
Speaking of lucky, tomorrow we leave for our first Asian vacation (or "holiday" as they say here). Our list of places we want to visit is long, so we thought we'd take advantage of the last week before Lydia starts kindergarten. We're headed to Phuket, Thailand for five days and four nights - from the photos we've seen, it is a tropical paradise (see example below).
We'll let you know if reality and marketing are one and the same!
